In 2008, Eric Fort, Sarah Amistadi and Gabriella Perell were awarded the scholarships.

 

Eric Fort received the Ernest “Larry” Seppi Scholarship. This scholarship was given by Larry’s family to honor Larry who was proud to be of Trentini descent. Fort is the great-grandson of Pacifico and Luigia Martinelli from Lardaro. His grandparents arrived in the United States in 1905 and 1906. Fort has been very involved in several activities including assistant scout master, Troop 1, of St. Paul, University of St. Thomas Chemistry Club treasurer and Graduate Student Association representative while at Boston College. He has also been awarded the POLYED Organic Chemistry Award, the Donald J. White Teaching Excellence Award and the Chemistry Department Graduate Student Service Award. He is also the Web master for the Trentini Tirolesi del Minnesota Club since 2008. Fort is pursuing his Ph.D. in chemistry at Boston College. His parents are John and Louise Fort of Hibbing.

 

In 1895, Constantino Amistadi, Sarah Amistadi’s great-greatgrandfather arrived in the United States from Roncone. In 1909, Sarah’s great-grandparents, Luigi Amistadi and Santa Bertelli, arrived from Lardaro and Daone, Italy. Sarah says, “Pasta is the first love of my life, along with so many other Italian traditions and food.” Amistadi has been involved  in Key Club since 2006 and was elected president in her senior year. She was also on the yearbook staff and a member of the art club. Sarah is the daughter of Karen Amistadi and Louis Amistadi of Chisholm, and is attending Mesabi Range Community and Technical College.

 

Gabriella Perell’s great-grandparents, Enrico and Ermina Banal, arrived in the United States in 1910 from Val di Non. Gabriella had the opportunity to travel to Italy with her Nonna, grandmother, to learn more about her Italian heritage. She visited with relatives and saw places special to her family’s history. Gabriella feels that, “knowing where I came from and how I got here gives me an appreciation for my ancestor’s hard  work.” Perell’s activities included piano, flute, flags in marching band, choir, National Honor Society, curling, prayer partners, Key Club, soccer, and various volunteer experiences such as Meals on Wheels and helping at the nursing home. Gabriella is attending St. Thomas where her course of study is health  sciences/premed. She is the daughter of David and Pamela Perell.
