ITTONA 2012 - Schedule

About the Bands

Abies Alba:

The name of the group means “silver fir”.

Founded in Bolbeno (Val Giudicarie) at the end of the Seventies, Abies Alba

played folk music from the celtic area. In 1991 they began to research the local

folk music of Trentino.  This search  led, in 1994, to recording the first CD

In punto alla mezzanotte or “Right at midnight” – with songs and dance tunes

from Trentino. Six years later, the group produced the second CD – Oggi non si

lavora or “Not working today”. The third CD – Abies alba - Musiche e canti dal

Trentino or “Abies alba - Music and songs from Trentino” – was recorded in 2006.

Abies alba has performed in many music festivals across Italy and in other european countries (Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Slovenia). With the support of Trentini nel mondo, they played for the Trentini communities in Brasil (2005), Bosnia (2006), Switzerland (2007), Belgium (2008) and will be making their first formal trip to the United States to perform for the 2012 ITTONA convention in Minnesota. The Renowns:

The Renowns have been making music lovers on the Iron Range tap their toes ever since the band formed back in 1955.  With two top hits in the late 1950’s and induction into the Rock Country Hall of Fame in 2005, the fun continues.  If you want to read more please see this recent article about the band. In 1959, The Renowns permeated the music scene outside the Iron Range. That's when the group won a talent contest sponsored by a Duluth radio station, and was given the opportunity to cut a record with Everest Records in Chicago. One side of the recording contained a song written by Ione, entitled, “My Mind’s Made Up.” The other, a song by Karakash entitled, “The Wild One." The songs topped the charts, and were No. 1 and No. 2 on the east and west coast, respectively.

I Cantatori is a group of “fun loving” individuals dedicated to having a good time and signing the songs of thier ancestors.  The group has been travelling and singing the tunes they heard as children for 30 years.  Recently they were featured in the Mesabi Daily News. They will be leading us in the sing-along on Friday night.
